United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, will visit Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh on June 12. This will be her first visit after retaining the Rae Bareli seat in the recent Lok Sabha Elections. She will be meeting all the MLAs and ex MLAs along with the party workers and leaders of the constituency. Sonia Gandhi retained the Rae Bareli seat by defeating BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh by over 1.67 lakh votes.
Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will take up the much-awaited expansion of the State Cabinet on June 12. In a tweet on Saturday, he confirmed that he met Governor Vajubhai R Vala and has sought time for the Cabinet expansion. The Governor will administer the oath to the new ministers at 11.30 a.m. Sources in the Congress said only two Independent legislators — R Shankar (Ranebennur) and H Nagesh (Mulbagal) — will be inducted.
AIADMK will conduct a meeting of its district secretaries and elected representatives at the head office in Chennai on June 12. Besides the district secretaries, MLAs, MPs and spokespersons have also been invited to take part in the meeting. This comes amidst rebel voices demanding a unitary leadership in the AIADMK, following a poor show in the recent Lok Sabha election.
The first meeting of the new council of ministers will be held on June 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to underline the role of ministers of state in the running of ministries. He may also ask the Cabinet ministers to give their deputies adequate responsibilities. Deliberations are also likely to be held on an action plan for the government's next five years and Modi is expected to brief the ministers on it.
Sources said that Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit Iran from June 12 to June 14. Abe would become the first Prime Minister of Japan to visit Iran since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. He is likely to meet Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s President, and Ali Khamenei, the country’s supreme leader. The last Japanese prime minister to visit was Takeo Fukuda in 1978
