‘CM has permitted hiring guest teachers for English medium’

This is the first year and there will be hiccups: MLC

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has asked government schools, which have admitted more than 30 students to the class I English medium from this academic year, to hire additional teachers if required, said S.L. Bhoje Gowda, MLC, here on Monday.

Speaking at a function of the Dakshina Kannada Pre University College Principals’ Association, Mr. Gowda said that Mr. Kumaraswamy, in a recent meeting, directed officials from the Education Department to withdraw the circular issued on June 1 restricting the admission of students to 30 and to send the excess students to Kannada medium.

Later, Mr. Gowda told The Hindu that Mr. Kumaraswamy asked officials to permit the schools to hire guest teachers.

“This is the first year of implementation and there are bound to be some hiccups, which are being addressed. The Chief Minister is steadfast on his resolve to provide affordable English medium education at the government schools,” Mr. Gowda said . He said the State government will improve the infrastructure for English medium section in government schools.

Earlier, in the function Mr. Gowda said government decision to open English medium in 1,000 government schools has received good response, more so in rural areas where people are keen on providing affordable English medium education to their children.

Mr. Gowda said Mr. Kumaraswamy was considering opening English medium LKG and UKG classes in government schools.

Opening LKG and UKG will not come in the way of functioning of anganwadis, he added.
