Toby Alderweireld has been hailed as the perfect defensive signing for Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Alderweireld has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, former manager Jose Mourinho reportedly failing to bring the Belgium international to Manchester last summer as part of his search for defensive cover.

Again the 30-year-old is being touted as a potential transfer target for the Red Devils, while it has also been reported that the defender could be available for just £25m due to a release clause in his Spurs contract.

And former team-mate at White Hart Lane, Jamie O’Hara is confident Alderweireld would fit in perfectly at Old Trafford.

Speaking on The Transfer Tavern show on talkSPORT, via website HITC, O’Hara said: “Man United are in desperate need of a centre-half, and he would 100% be on their list. He must be, for that price.

“I think he would be a fantastic signing for them. I would be gutted to see him leave Spurs.”

But while Alderweireld is being touted as a potential target, he is not one of the seven players believed to be on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s radar during this transfer window.

According to ESPN, Solskjaer is keen on bringing in seven new signings and has shown an interest in Harry Maguire, James Maddison, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Ryan Fraser, Declan Rice, Ryan Sessegnon and Sean Longstaff.

However, that list does not include Swansea City star Daniel James, who is set to pen a deal at Old Trafford later this week after returning from international duty with Wales.
