AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi appealed supporters to pray for the wellbeing of his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi whose health recently worsened. Five-time MLA from Chandrayangutta constituency, Akhbaruddin Owaisi, 48, was admitted to a hospital in London towards the end of the Lok Sabha elections. He has been undergoing treatment for the bullet and knife injuries he had received in 2011 while he was shot at by a rival group.
Sources in AIMIM said, because of the injury, his overall health conditions have also been affected in recent years. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy tweeted wishing speedy recovery of Akbaruddin.
Known for his fiery speeches, Akbaruddin has at least 18 cases against him including one for attacking and manhandling writer Taslima Nasreen at the Hyderabad Press Club in 2007. He and his supporters also roughed up an Urdu daily editor for publishing anti-MIM articles.
Akbaruddin also had an acrimonious feud allegedly over land dealings with the family of Mohammed bin Omar Yafai, also known as Mohammed Pehelwan, an accomplished wrestler, who lives in Chandrayangutta. Yafai was a supporter of the Owaisis but fell out and allegedly started supporting rivals of MIM due to which Akbaruddin was angry with him.
