The Anamalai police on Sunday arrested a 46-year-old man on the charge of sexually assaulting his 14-year-old daughter. The girl’s mother was also arrested for not reporting the incident to police. Anamalai inspector D. Subramaniam said that the girl reported the incident to police when her parents were away.

“The girl had reportedly told her mother about the sexual assault from her father. However, the mother ignored it. The mother was also not willing to give a complaint. The girl later lodged a complaint with the police which led to her parents’ arrest,” he said.

The couple were arrested under Sections 5 (l) whoever commits penetrative sexual assault on the child more than once or repeatedly, (n) whoever being a relative of the child through blood or adoption or marriage or guardianship or in foster care or having a domestic relationship with a parent of the child or who is living in the same or shared household with the child, commits penetrative sexual assault on such child and 6 (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and 7 (Sexual assault)of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. They were produced before the Mahila Court on Monday and remanded in judicial custody.
