Gurgaon: A Palam Vihar resident moved to the Gurgaon police commissioner alleging laxity in his
complaint of theft of Rs 2 lakh from his car in January. The complainant said after delaying the registration of an
FIR on his complaint filed in January, the investigating officer (IO) didn’t record any statements nor conducted any an
investigation for five months after the crime. On Sunday, an FIR on the theft was finally registered at
Palam Vihar police station on the order of the police commissioner, who also ordered an
inquiry against the IO.
Vikas Yadav, the complainant, said he came to Sector 22 by car to visit Ashok Singh, a resident of Sector 50, on January 7 this year.
“Singh joined me inside. I had kept Rs 2 lakh in my car and stepped out to buy some fruits. After some time, Singh left. I later realised that the money was missing and immediately called him up, but he didn’t receive it and blocked my number instead,” Yadav said in his complaint to the commissioner.
“I filed a police complaint the next day, but the investigating officer, ASI Dhanraj Tanwar, ignored it. He didn’t file an FIR and instead kept giving false assurances. I believe that the IO didn’t carry out his duties because he was hand-in-glove with Singh,” Yadav added. On May 24, Yadav approached the police commissioner officer with a complaint. An FIR was finally registered against Singh under Section 380 (theft) of the IPC on Sunday.
“Allegations have been levelled against me without reason. I have already submitted a report in the case. I am ready to face inquiry,” ASI Tanwar said.
Police spokesperson
Subhash Boken said a probe is being conducted and Tanwar’s role is being verified.
