2020 BMW 3 Series Touring Photos Seem Legit, Too Bad America Won’t Get It

While BMW has unveiled the all-new 3 Series G20 sedan in October of last year, the G21 wagon has yet to debut.

In fairness, the new 3 Series Touring isn’t exactly a well-kept secret: we’ve already seen patent images of it, plus various test prototypes covered with camouflage that wasn’t that difficult to peel off mentally. Now however, we may have our best look at the undisguised 3 Series Touring G21 courtesy of two seemingly official photos posted by a member of Germancarforum.

The two images are accompanied by the message “first pictures G21” so we can’t actually be 100 percent sure they are the real deal.

However, we ran a Google image search with each one of them and no similar results appeared, which means they are not renderings. Furthermore, they are consistent with the patent images from last year.

Obviously, the photo that interests us the most is the one showing the rear end and we have to say BMW designers did a pretty good job turning the sedan into a wagon. The rising beltline towards the end gets more dramatic as it reaches the third lateral window, giving the car a sporty vibe.

Unlike the G20 sedan and the previous 3 Series Touring, the G21 ditches the Hofmeister kink and manages to look fresh as a result. As for the taillights, while they may be identical to those of the sedan, they seem to fit the Touring better. We can also tell that the rear window seems more steeply raked than ever, therefore improving the looks of the car.

Sadly, the 2020 3 Series Touring won’t make it to North America, remaining essentially a Euro-only affair. As a result, it will share the sedan’s European engine lineup consisting of turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid version.
