PUDUCHERRY: Two students from
Puducherry claimed international ranks and bagged gold medals in the contest organized by
Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) for the year 2018-19.
A Class VII student from Brainy Blooms L’ Ecole Internationale School (CBSE) M Thishaanth claimed the first rank in the international general knowledge
Olympiad and bagged the gold medal. A Class II student from BlueStar Higher Secondary School T Hari Haran finished first in the International Mathematics Olympiad and bagged the gold medal. The two students were also awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each.
More than 50 lakh students from over 50,000 schools across 1,400 cities and 30 countries participated in the contest during 2018-19. More than 30,000 students from Puducherry participated in the contest.
SOF felicitated the medallists in a simple function at New Delhi. The former chief justice of India justice Dipak Misra felicitated the medallist in the presence of SOF founder and executive director Mahabir Singh. In addition to international winners, the foundation also honoured close to 61,000 students from 6,300 schools for achieving top state-level ranks and more than eight lakh students for achieving top ranks in their respective schools.
The foundation also honoured more than 2,000 principals and teachers for their commitment to academics and single-minded pursuit in successfully improving students’ academic knowledge.
