A total of 39 people fell ill after reportedly drinking contaminated water from an open well in Jewargi taluk of Kalaburagi district on Tuesday.
They were taken to the taluk hospital and primary health centres after they developed uneasiness and had vomiting and diarrhoea. Taluk Health Officer Siddaram Patil told The Hindu that their condition was stable. He said there are six drinking water sources in Gudur SA tanda and the people who fell ill drank water from a particular borewell that was repaired recently and was not working for years.
He said that the residents of the tanda have been directed not to drink water from any of the borewells or open well. Water is being supplied through tankers.
The water sample has been sent for test. Doctors also collected stool samples of some patients.
The District Health and Family Welfare Officer and the District Malaria Officer, who visited the hospital and the tanda, suspected that the contaminated bore water was the main cause for the incident.
