A brewery that started up more than 15 years ago and became one of the early craft ale success stories is set to launch its own lager.

Conwy Brewery was set up by qualified chemist Gwynne Thomas in the town of Conwy before later moving to a larger production unit in Llysfaen and also opening a mirco-pub.

They have been at the the forefront of the ale scene and one of the four breweries behind the Albion pub in Conwy.

Now the brewery is making its latest venture with the release of a new lager for this expanding part of the craft market.

Mr Thomas, brewery director, said: “Across the UK we have seen the growth of locally brewed real ales and have identified a growing demand for locally brewed lager.

“Conwy Lager is based on a Czech style pilsner brewed with authentic craft lager malt and Czech Saaz hops complemented by our very soft, pure Snowdonia water to produce a wonderfully tasty lager with a refreshing clean finish.

“It’s not too hoppy which in our tasting trials would put off many lager drinkers, but is designed to be the ideal drink to refresh on a hot summer’s day.”

Conwy Lager will be launched to coincide with Beer Day Britain at the first ever MASH Beer festival on June 15 at Conwy Brewery.

It will also be launched at a number of local pubs including the Cottage Loaf, Llandudno. Royal Oak, Betws y Coed. and Ty Dderw, in Moelfre.
