Immigration officials arrested a 35-year-old Sri Lankan national on Tuesday who was trying to board a flight to Hungary from Kempegowda International Airport with an Indian passport.
The accused, Sasikumar Markkandu, native of Western Province in Sri Lanka, had come to Chennai in 2012 and stayed in Madurai since then, working as a videographer.
He moved to Bengaluru in April 2019 and with the help of an agent from Sri Lanka, he got an Indian passport claiming to be born in Madurai and got the visa for Hungary.
He initially claimed that he was an employee of a leading BPO company in Electronics City since 2014 and was visiting Hungary for official purpose. However, on suspicion, Ashok Pal, immigration officer, cross checked his credentials and came to know he was Sri Lankan.
The accused has been booked under various sections of the Foreigners Act and remanded in judicial custody.
