A beloved 62-year-old teacher from Hoërskool Monumentpark in Kraaifontein, Cape Town, was murdered during a robbery in her Durbanville home on Monday.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk told News24 that her son had discovered her body early on Monday morning.

Helga van Wyk's husband, advocate Johann van Wyk, was injured when he rushed to his wife’s defence. He was stabbed several times and was currently in Durbanville Mediclinic, where he was operated on, Netwerk24 reported.

"Crime scene experts are still on the scene combing the area for clues," Van Wyk said.
