Ludhiana: Registration process at Government College East began on Monday. As many as 21 students have registered on the first day for BA course.
The newly-constituted Government College Ludhiana (East), which is a co-educational institute, is situated on the Chandigarh road. It started its academic session last year, but the classes commenced at SCD Government College.
In 2018, 116 students registered against 80 seats. 69 students, including 13 female students and 56 male, got admission for BA course.
Undergraduate courses, including B Com, BSc, BBA and BCA will be offered once the college is constructed. Classes for bachelors in arts, the only course they have till now, will be conducted at SCD Government College.
Talking to principal Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu, said: “All the details related to the academic session 2019-20 are uploaded on the college website- www.gcldheast.org. Last year, we adjusted our own faculty to teach students, but this year we will appoint new staff. The building will be ready by August and students will be shifted there.”
Sanjay Talwar, MLA (East), who took the initiative of starting the college to cater to the educational requirements of local students, said: “We assured to get over with its construction by July 15, but it will be postponed by a month. One block will be ready by September and the classes would be commenced in the college. Hopefully, the whole building will be completed near Diwali.”
The college will prove to be a boon for the weaker section of society as private colleges charge exorbitant fee. Generally, it has been witnessed that students belonging to the lower strata discontinue their studies owing to costly fee structure.
