Effective implementation of panchayat raj and municipal acts is a must to bring qualitative change in the development of villages and towns, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said. He also stressed the need to make the acts people-friendly to ensure good governance.
The Chief Minister made these observations at a review meeting held here on Monday on strengthening the panchayat raj act, preparing an action plan for its effective implementation and formulating a new municipal act.
Ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Koppula Eshwar, V. Srinivas Goud, Chief Advisor to Government Rajiv Sharma, Principal Secretaries S. Narsing Rao (CMO), Arvind Kumar (Municipal Administration) and others attended the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting the Chief Minister underscored the need to formulate a new municipal act, on the lines of panchayat raj act, with transparency and without giving scope for corruption.
An effective action plan for the all round development and welfare of villages and towns would make the task easy for officials and elected representatives, provided they discharge their functions with commitment.
Stating that there was scope for development of villages on par with towns, he suggested the officials and elected representatives to be responsible and responsive in providing basic infrastructure and other facilities. “We have to understand that people are expecting good governance and improved services,” the Chief Minister said adding that a proper municipal act was prepared.
Legislators Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Aroori Ramesh, Commissioner of Municipal Administration T.K. Sridevi, Special Secretary in CMO Bhoopal Reddy and others also participated.
