Pune: Farmer attacked, robbed of cash and cell phone

PUNE: The Kondhwa police on Monday arrested four people, including a woman, for plotting the attack on a farmer and robbing him of cash and mobile phone collectively worth Rs 26,000 near a hill behind Cloud9, a gated housing society, on NIBM annexe road on Sunday around 12.30am.
Those arrested include Sharanbasappa Chinchkote (39) and Santosh Sangolgi (25) from Bidar, Mahadev Munali (28) and Sulochana Sutar alias Panchal from Mohammadwadi.
Farmer Manya Basanna Dori (40) visited the residence of his wife’s relative at Pimpri on June 8 for distributing the wedding cards of his brother marriage ceremony to be held on June 13.
He later visited the residence of his in-laws at Manjri and from there he called his wife’s cousin sister Sulochana and requested her to give Rs 10,000 and boarded an autorickshaw from reaching her residence at Krishnanagar in Mohammadwadi.
After reaching Mohammadwadi, Dori again called Sulochana but she asked him to wait there and sent an autorickshaw for picking him up for reaching Krishannagar. The autorickshaw having a co-passenger drove him to various places for 30 minutes and stopped at an isolated place near the hill where another rickshaw driver was waiting for them.
Police said one suspect caught hold of the farmer while two others robbed him of cash Rs 24,000 and mobile phone worth Rs 2,000 and attacked him with a sharp weapon like knife on his left hand and left check and sped away.

The terrified farmer was so afraid that he fled from the spot and met a medical shop employee, but he was unable to communicate with him because of language barrier. The shop employee on seeing him in an injured condition contacted the police and helped him in talking to his relative over phone where he gave details of the robbery.
A police team led by sub-inspector Santosh Shinde under senior inspector Anil Patil picked up Sulochana for questioning for collecting details of the autorickshaw driver when she broke down and revealed details of the three men sent by her for robbing and attacking Dori as she wanted to get rid of him because he was constantly demanding money from her.
