Pimpri: Residents of Moshi in Pimpri Chinchwad observed a total bandh on Sunday to protest against the plans to dump garbage of Pune at the local ‘gayran’. A protest meeting held at the Nageshwar temple was attended by office bearers of various political parties and a large number of residents.

All the traders and vendors participated in the bandh called to register protest against dumping of Pune’s garbage. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) already has a garbage dumping ground in Moshi. The local residents of Moshi, Charholi and Wadmukhwadi have often complained against the menace caused by the dumped garbage. The call for bandh was given after learning that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) too wants to dump its garbage at the site of the proposed Safari Park in Moshi.

In response to the bandh call, the bazaar of the local agricultural produces marketing committee remained closed on Sunday. The farmers were given an advance intimation in this regard.

The protest meeting was attended by Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge, former MLA Vilas Lande, leader of Opposition in PCMC Datta Sane, and corporators.

The meeting has threatened to intensify agitation if the authorities go ahead with their plans to dump Pune’s garbage in Moshi.
