Work to revamp three parks under Amrut scheme to start soon

Ludhiana: After a tussle of almost three years, the civic authorities will now start work on revamping three parks in the city under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transmission (Amrut).
Earlier, even after finalization of the detailed project reports, the tender process could not start. The officials concerned have handed over the work to contractors, but due to imposition of the election code of conduct, the work could not start in April.
Officials claimed that the work would be completed in another four to five months.
Basant Park behind the MC zone office, green belt opposite the Lodhi Club in J block of Rajguru Nagar and Ambedkar Park near the Jalandhar bypass chowk will be revamped. The process to revamp these parks had started in 2017, but it took almost a year to finalize the detailed project report because the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Corporation (PMIDC) monitored the work on its own.
In 2018 and for the first three months of 2019, officials concerned floated tenders thrice and in the third attempt, they could not finalize the contractor.
The MC was supposed to develop five parks in five years under the Amrut scheme. They are, however, yet to start work on the rest of the two parks.
Sub divisional officer of the MC Raman Kaushal, while confirming the same, said: “The work will start soon and three parks will be beautified in the next few months. People will get a chance to sit in the lush green environment.”
For the rest of the parks, he said, they were yet to finalize the plan.
Meanwhile, Seema Kapoor, councillor of ward number 73, said the development of the green belt near the Lodhi Club would benefit around 7,000 people living in J block of Rajguru Nagar and the housing board colony because the area had small parks.
She said the residents would get a bigger park after the area would be revamped.
Cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu inaugurated the work on Sunday near the Lodhi club.
