Both teams are out in the middle along with the match officials for the national anthems. We are just minutes away from the start!

Playing XI for both teams

West Indies: Chris Gayle, Shai Hope(w), Darren Bravo, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder(c), Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse, Kemar Roach, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas

South Africa: Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock(w), Faf du Plessis(c), Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir, Beuran Hendricks

Skippers at the toss:

Jason Holder: We'll bowl first. Overcast conditions all around and rain is expected, so this is the right decision. No point on dwelling on past results and South Africa are in a difficult situation as well. Hopefully we can do better. Two forced changes - Andre Russell isn't fit, so Darren Bravo is in. So is Kemar Roach. Evin Lewis sits out.

Faf du Plessis: We would have bowled first as well with the nature of the weather around. There is forecast for more of the same and it could be an overcast game throughout. We played two of the strongest sides early on, India and England. Obviously the loss to Bangladesh was difficult. If you can turn the tide, you can rule it. The guys are looking not to be negative because that will set them further down. It's a long tournament. We've two changes - Aiden Markram is back and Beuran Hendricks is in as well. Previous match we played here had a bit of it for the bowlers. The locals have said that it's a flat wicket but it hasn't been that way. Hopefully, it should be better today.

Team news: Big blow to the Windies as Andre Russell sits out. Darren Bravo comes in his place. Evin Lewis also misses out and Kemar Roach replaces him. Two changes for South Africa as well as Aiden Markram and Beuran Hendricks make into the playing XI. JP Duminy and Tabraiz Shamsi sit out.

TOSS NEWS: West Indies skipper Jason Holder wins the toss, opts to field against South Africa.

Hello and welcome to the live updates of the ICC World Cup 2019 Match 15 between South Africa and West Indies at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

Preview

After three consecutive defeats, South Africa will eye their first win of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 when they face West Indies at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton on Monday. After a below par show so far, the Proteas desperately need a win to stay in contention for a spot in the semi-finals.

West Indies on the other hand looked slightly better after a win and a loss from their two games. The Jason Holder-led Carribean side kicked-off their campaign on a convincing note with an impressive seven wicket win over Pakistan before suffering a narrow 15 loss to Australia.

The Proteas lost their all three encounters against England, Bangladesh and India. The pacer's performance in their six wicket loss to India must be heartening for skipper Faf du Plessis and the team management, but it's the batsmen who need to step-up against a good looking West Indies pace attack.

So far, nothing seems to work well for South Africa as pacer Dale Steyn has been ruled out due to injury while Lungi Ngidi is also unfit for the game on Monday.

South Africa have plenty to discuss about their inconsistent performance with the bat and their openers - Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla will have to surely fire against the Windies. However, their middle order looks decent and the lower order has also chipped in with runs. The Proteas now needs to play fearless and attacking cricket.

Meanwhile, the Windies will look to rise up from their narrow defeat to Australia, a game which was under their control.

While their aggressive opening bowling in the first two matches have impressed everyone and if it happens again, it could be another threat for the Proteans as their openers have failed to fire. It was a poor shot selection by the Carribean batsmen in their run-chase against Australia, which cost them the match.

However, having won their opening fixture and pushing closer to victory against Australia, they will be the favourites in Monday's game. South Africa, however, have a 4-2 advantage over West Indies in World Cup games.
