Byappanahalli rail overbridge work to resume on Tuesday

BENGALURU: In a major relief for commuters at Byappanahalli, the long-pending work on a rail overbridge (ROB), which had been stuck since 2012, will resume on Tuesday.
South Western Railway (SWR) will conduct a ground-breaking ceremony of the flyover at 9:30am, said divisional railway manager Ashok Kumar Verma.
Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan on Sunday tweeted: "Happy to update that work on long pending, incomplete ROB in Baiyappanahalli wil start on 11th June. I thank Smt @nsitharaman for releasing Def land & Rly Min Shri @PiyushGoyal for taking interest on this infra proj that wil provide huge relief to commuters (sic)"
TOI had carried a report - 7 years on, Byappanahalli ROB remains incomplete as defence yet to give nod - on May 28, highlighting the plight of commuters. The 900m-long ROB will connect areas like Maruthi Sevanagar and Old Byappanahalli to Old Madras Road, but only 400m of it has been completed so far because of delay in getting permission from the Army's Madras Engineer Group to commence work.
The ROB seeks to connect the proposed third coaching terminal at Byappanahalli and Swami Vivekananda Metro station. While the terminal is expected to be completed soon, work on the ROB was stopped after Madras Sappers refused permission to SWR to carry out construction on its land.
The ROB will eliminate two level-crossing gates on the Bengaluru-Chennai line.
