Former diamond worker’s wife kills daughter, hangs self

Surat: A 28-year-old woman allegedly strangulated her nine-year-old daughter and then committed suicide by hanging in Bardoli town on Monday.
Police said financial crisis looks to be the primary reason behind the drastic step. The deceased were identified as Nandini Rajput and her daughter Angel.
Early in the morning, her husband Bhikhu, who was sleeping on the terrace of the house, heard his young son crying and rushed down. He broke open the door only to find Nandini hanging from the ceiling fan and Angel lying dead on the cot.
Police said that a week ago, Bhikhu and Nandini had a fight over poor school results of Angel as well as ongoing financial problems.
Sources said Rajput was a diamond polisher and earn handsomely. However, a year ago, he lost his job. He had taken up labour work in a tiles factory to support the family. Police have registered a case of accidental death.
