Wayne Rooney has given his seal of approval to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer approach as he warned Manchester United against signing £100m players this summer.

United announced that a deal has been agreed with Swansea City for the signing of Daniel James this week and it is understood United want to follow the James addition with more young British players.

Rooney, speaking to the BBC, gave his transfer advice to Manchester United.

“The first thing Ole has to do is build the squad and I don’t think bringing in one or two players for £100m is going to help the players already there,” he said.

“He’s better spending £30m to £40m on players with potential and building the squad around those five or six players.”

Meanwhile, England won their first game of the women’s World Cup with a 2-1 win against Scotland.

City 'make Felix contract offer'

Manchester City have reportedly offered Joao Felix a net salary of six million euros per year to join the Etihad club on a five-year deal.

United and City are both keeping tabs on the highly rated teenager but Portuguese outlet Record have made the first move by making Felix a tempting contract offer.

Benfica’s president admitted last week it will not be possible for the Primeira Liga club to keep hold of the Felix beyond the summer.

Rose alerts United

Manchester United might be tempted to revive their interest in the Tottenham defender Danny Rose after he admitted he could leave the Champions League runners-up this summer.

The 28-year-old left-back was previously a priority target for United but the club’s need to strengthen in that position lessened this season due to Luke Shaw’s revival.

Shaw’s solid campaign earned him the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award as well as the Players’ Player of the Year award.

However, the former Southampton player is United’s only out-and-out left-back and might benefit from some competition for his position.

It is not clear whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be interested in signing Rose this summer but it certainly sounds as though he would be attainable.

“I don’t know what the future holds now,” Rose said. “I’m looking forward to a break. If I’m back at Tottenham next season, great, if I’m not - great. I’ll just have to wait and see.

“It’s not about regular first-team football. I know my age and I know how the club’s run in terms of if you get to a certain age they might look to ship you on.

“It has been no secret that my name has been mentioned quite a few times in terms of players moving on and I’ll be just sitting tight over the next few weeks and just seeing what happens. Either way I’m prepared for whatever happens.”

United 'plot Bale loan move'

United are plotting an audacious move to sign Gareth Bale on loan, according to reports.

The Mirror’s Simon Mullock writes:

Real Madrid are desperately trying to ditch the Welsh winger after boss Zinedine Zidane made it clear that Bale has no future at the Bernabeu. But there have been no takers so far — with both Man United and Bale’s former club Tottenham rejecting Madrid’s invitation to make a £75million bid.

United, however, are prepared to take the 29-year-old on a season-long loan with an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months. That would enable Madrid to slash up to £50m off their wage bill over the course of the next two seasons.

And United are also be willing to pay a loan fee to further tempt the fallen Spanish giants, who finished just third this season — a massive 19 points behind bitter rivals and champions Barcelona.

United 'encouraged to continue Wan-Bissaka pursuit'

United are encouraged to continue their pursuit of Aaron Wan-Bissaka despite reportedly being knocked back with their opening offer for the Crystal Palace right-back.

It is claimed by the Evening Standard that United had a bid of around £35million for Wan-Bissaka rejected earlier in the transfer window, but there is belief at the club that an improved offer could see the Reds get their man.

However, it remains to be seen how much United would be willing to offer for the youngster, with Palace said to be holding out for £60million.

What Ronaldo told De Ligt after Nations League final

Manchester United target Matthijs de Ligt has revealed details of a conversation he had with Cristiano Ronaldo after the Netherlands’ defeat by Portugal in Sunday’s UEFA Nations League final.

Portugal collected their second international trophy in four years as Goncalo Guedes’ second-half strike proved enough to separate the two sides in Porto.

And after the match television cameras captured Ronaldo and De Ligt in conversation on the pitch.

De Ligt was later asked what the pair’s discussion was about and the 19-year-old answered honestly.

“He asked me to come to Juventus,” De Ligt told NOS. “I was a little shocked by that question, that’s why I laughed. I didn’t understand him at first.”

United 'ready to give De Gea golden handshake'

United are ready to hand David de Gea £20million to leave the club this summer, according to reports.

It is claimed by The Sun that United are willing to accept between £60m and £75m for the Spanish goalkeeper, whose contract at Old Trafford expires next year.

United are said to know they will have to give De Gea a ‘golden handshake’ to ensure he leaves now rather than wait until next summer and leave for free.

What Manchester United need to do after announcing Daniel James transfer

Manchester United confirmed their first piece of transfer business on Friday with an agreement in place to sign the Swansea winger, Daniel James, when the international transfer window opens on June 11.

It was the first piece of tangible evidence that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s rebuild of the first team at Old Trafford will revolve around the recruitment of young, British players, with potential prioritised over experience.

James, 21, enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Swansea last season and earned rave reviews from the Wales manager, Ryan Giggs, who has handed James all three of his senior international caps to date.

United are thought to be keen on moves for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the Crystal Palace right-back, and Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff, with both fitting the profile of player that Solskjaer identified as key to United’s hopes of a return to the Premier League’s summit.

Here, MEN Sport looks at what Solskjaer’s next move in the transfer market should be.

Manchester United 'make transfer bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka'

Manchester United have made another ‘substantial’ bid to sign Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to reports.

MEN Sport understands the 21-year-old is high on United’s list of transfer priorities this summer as United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bring in a right-back following Antonio Valencia’s departure.

It was reported last month that United had made an initial offer of £25million, significantly below Palace’s reported £50million valuation of their player of the year.

But Sky Sports claim another offer has been made, though Palace remain reluctant to sell with Wan-Bissaka still having three years to run on his current contract.

Meanwhile, the London Evening Standard report United have sounded out Christian Eriksen amid the Tottenham midfielder’s attempts to leave Spurs this summer.

The Dane admitted last week that he is seeking new challenges elsewhere and it is claimed that United are considering a move for the 27-year-old.

Youri Tielemans and Christian Eriksen 'on list of potential replacements' for Manchester United's Paul Pogba

Manchester United are ‘considering Christian Eriksen and Youri Tielemans as possible Paul Pogba replacements’, according to reports.

United’s record-signing is being heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, with Zinedine Zidane reportedly wanting to make his fellow countryman a part of his Real Madrid rebuild.

Pogba has made no secret about his excitement at the thought of playing under Zidane in the Spanish capital, and his former club Juventus are also said to be interested.

United are under no pressure to sell the World Cup winner as he still has two years remaining on his current contract and they remain adamant that he won’t be sold this summer.

However, the Evening Standard report that United have ‘begun drawing up a list of potential replacements for Pogba.’
