NSW Fire and Rescue believe the leak came from the family's pool heater

NSW Fire and Rescue believe the leak came from the family's pool heater

NSW Fire and Rescue told Daily Mail Australia the carbon monoxide leak is believed to have come from the family's pool heater, which allegedly malfunctioned and emitted the gas into the home.

'Fire and Rescue minimised the carbon monoxide by cutting off the fuel to the heater and ventilation, making the residence safe to re-enter', a spokesman said.

Carbon monoxide is known as the 'silent killer' because it is colourless and odourless and virtually undetectable by humans without technology.

Symptoms of CO poisoning include headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting and blurred vision.
