HYDERABAD: A tanker carrying 12,000 litres of high-speed diesel and petrol overturned on Outer Ring Road in Ravirala Village in
Maheswaram on Monday. Though the driver and cleaner in the vehicle escaped with no injuries, at least 1500 litres of petrol and diesel spilt on the road.
An emergency call was received by the
fire department at around 12.20pm. According to official, the driver had dozed off at the wheel and lost control and crashed into the railing at Ravirala village. "The vehicle overturned. The driver and the cleaner immediately stepped out and alerted police and fire control room," said GV Prasad, assistant district fire officer (ADFO) of Rangareddy district. The vehicle was going from Cherlapalli to Mahaboobnagar district.
According to the official, the vehicle was carrying 8,000 litres of diesel and 4000 litres of petrol. Two fire engines were rushed to the spot. "We closed the road, fearing it could lead to further accidents. Initially, we pour water and then foam on the road for at least three hours. After which the road was re-opened," added the officer.
Another empty petrol tanker vehicle was brought to the spot to transfer the remaining diesel and petrol from the vehicle.
