Ludhiana: The police on Sunday night arrested a snatcher who had escaped from a lock-up in Hoshiarpur the previous year.
After escaping police custody in October 2018, Gurmeet Singh, 28, of Chabbewal, Hoshiarpur, came to Ludhiana and started committing snatchings along with his cousin.
Police said he has confessed to have committed more than 10 snatchings in the past five months.

Jeevan Nagar police post in-charge ASI Kulwant Chand said, “On May 27, the police had arrested Sukhwinder Singh, 25, a snatcher, with four cellphones. During interrogation, he told that he executed snatchings along with his cousin Gurmeet, who had escaped from Hoshiarpur police custody after his arrest in a theft case last October. On his inputs, Gurmeet was arrested from Focal Point on Sunday night.”
The police said both Gurmeet and Sukhwinder were drug addicts. “They snatched cellphones to fund their addiction. Gurmeet is involved in several snatching and theft cases in Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur. We suspect their involvement in several other cases, many of which might have gone unreported,” the ASI added.
