Police recruitment candidates of 2013 batch lathicharged in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: Hazratganj police cane-charged hundreds of candidates who qualified for the Uttar Pradesh Police recruitment exam in 2013 on Monday. The candidates who had cleared the exam were protesting over delay in appointment. The irate candidates claimed that they had successfully qualified for the medical but their appointment appointment hangs in a quandary.
"The candidates were staging a protest outside the police recruitment board but later they came out and threatened to move outside the state assembly and also blocking the movement of the traffic on Vidhan Sabha marg. Hence, forcing us to disperse them using minor cane-charge," said Radha Raman Singh, SHO Hazratganj.
However, the candidates told media persons that they were unnecessarily thrashed by the cops.

Later, a group of other protesting candidates at Eco garden in Aashiana, consumed some poisonous substance in protest against the delay in appointment.
Police said that some of the protestors fainted and were admitted to different hospitals, the reason is yet to be ascertained, they opined.
