Around 4.5 lakh candidates to attempt Paper 2 today

Nearly 1.62 lakh candidates wrote Paper 1 of the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) across the State on Saturday.

The Teacher’s Recruitment Board conducted the eligibility test at 470 centres spread across 32 districts. In Chennai, candidates took the test at 28 centres.

Nearly 1.83 lakh candidates registered for Paper 1, which is meant for secondary-grade teachers handling classes I to V. On Sunday, around 4.5 lakh candidates will attempt Paper 2, which is for graduate teachers handling classes VI and above.

TNTET was last conducted in 2017. A notification was issued for the conduct of the test in February and subsequently, around 6 lakh teachers registered for Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Exam components

Apart from their subject specialisations, candidates also have child pedagogy and development, as well as Tamil and English language components as a part of their exam paper.

According to the Right to Education (RTE) Act, the National Council for Teacher Education guidelines specify that clearing the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) would be a requirement for appointment as a teacher for classes I to VIII.
