THANE: Autorickshaw and taxi drivers of Thane, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai, Raigad,
Palghar, among others, have decided to not ply their vehicles on June 18.
The demands include a hike in minimum fares and freezing of permits in the region. This comes after meeting of union leaders of the Konkan Vibhag Auto/Taxi Mahasangh on Saturday. The increase in kaali peeli taxis after permit disbursals has affected business and the minimum fares have remained unchanged for five years, said the members of the Mahasangh.
"We have proposed a fare hike for autos to be Rs 22 from Rs 18 and for taxis to be Rs 30 from Rs 22," said Prakash Penkar, president of the Mahasangh.
