Noida: A 25-year-old news anchor and the editor of a private news
channel based out of Noida were
arrested on Saturday for allegedly broadcasting a live panel discussion with “unverified” content and featuring a woman who has been making
derogatory claims about the CM, police said.
Police said the Hindi news channel also had no proper authorisation to be on air. The news anchor, a woman, and the editor were among five booked in the case, the others being another anchor, an advocate and the woman who featured in the panel discussion through a phone call link.
Police said the content that was aired on the show was found to be “provocative” by workers of a political party. They have been booked under sections 505(2) (statements amounting to public mischief), 501 (printing or engraving defamatory matter) and 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot) of the IPC.
“A separate FIR was filed against the news channel for broadcasting their channel on a third party licence,” Noida police chief Vaibhav Krishna said.
