Ludhiana: The Dugri police have booked a man for faking a loot incident and filing a false complaint.
During investigation of the case, the police found out that Rajinder Singh of GK Vihar of Dhandhran concocted the story while trying to cheat his business associates as he was supposed to pay them Rs 2.5lakh.
Rajinder has a readymade garment shop in Akalgarh Market in Chaura Bazaar.
Sub-inspector Pritpal Singh, investigating officer, said on Friday, Rajinder Singh lodged a complaint with the police claiming that two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched Rs 2.5 lakh from him in Dugri.
He had claimed that he was on the way to his shop and had kept the cash it a bag. According to Rajinder, motorcycle-borne men had snatched the bag from him near Labour Chowk in Phase-I in Dugri. He had further claimed that he had tried to chase down the accused, but to no avail.
Pritpal said the police inquired about the incident from local residents and shopkeepers. They claimed that they have not witness any such incident. Further, police scanned CCTV cameras in the area, but found nothing. Thereafter the police questioned Rajinder Singh who started changing his statement. On further questioning, he confessed that he had concocted the crime.
The accused said he had to pay Rs 2.5 lakh to one of his business associate Gurmeet Singh. He could not arrange the money, therefore he concocted a story.
A case under Sections 177 (Furnishing false information) and 203 (Giving false information respecting an offense committed) of the IPC and section 66 of Punjab Police Act has been registered against the accused.
