'A miracle they're all alive': Police search for red car after four injured in suspected drag race

Four young men were left trapped in a car on Saturday night after a suspected high-speed drag race ended when their Honda Civic crashed into a power pole.

Police are now on the hunt for a red car that is believed to have been racing with the four friends before their vehicle flipped, balancing up against a pole on the Greater Western Highway at Girraween.

The car was "overturned" and "severely damaged" when emergency services arrived at the scene just after 10:30pm, police say. Crews worked for an hour to free the men who had to be extricated from the car.

The crash left driver Zac Wood, 20, in a critical condition with serious lower leg injuries.

Ryan Stoecker, 22, was left with significant internal injuries, with Daniel Paladino also taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition. Joseph Catania, 22, was taken to hospital with a fractured femur.

Witness William Shafig told Nine News that two cars allegedly sped past him while he was travelling up the highway before the "back" of the Honda Civic "came up".  Police say the driver "lost control" while travelling west.

Friends took to social media concerned for the welfare of the four men, with driver Mr Wood undergoing surgery Saturday night.

"Praying for my brothers," one friend wrote. "It's very bad and a miracle they're all alive."

Police are seeking any information or dashcam footage in regards to the crash, particularly the red car.
