HYDERABAD: SR Nagar police have arrested six persons in connection with the stabbing incident near
Ameerpet Metro station on Friday evening. A 22-year-old cook, Imtiyaz Ali, who married a 19-year-old relative without the consent of her family members, was chased and stabbed with knives by his in-laws.
On June 5, Zainab Fathima, 19, daughter of 50-year-old Syed Mohsin Ali, an electrician from NRR Puram Colony in
Borabanda, left her house after informing the family that she was going to purchase bangles. As she did not return home, the family members searched for her and lodged a complaint with SR Nagar police on June 6.
Meanwhile, Imtiyaz Ali, a relative of Zainab Fathima’s brother-in-law, went to Sangareddy police station along with Zainab and informed the cops that they had married without the consent of Zainab’s family. Sangareddy police further informed the SR Nagar police about the marriage. A woman constable from SR Nagar police station along with Zainab’s family went to Sangareddy and brought the couple to SR Nagar police station.
At SR Nagar police station, both the groups were counselled and Zainab’s brother Syed Farooq Ali, an auto driver, gave an undertaking that he would perform Zainab’s marriage with Imtiyaz. Zainab then left with her family and the next day, both the groups turned up at SR Nagar police station to discuss the matter.
“As Zainab is an adult, Mohsin Ali, his two sons — Farooq Ali and Ahmed Ali — and their brother-in-law Mohammed Ali thought that the marriage cannot be nullified, so they decided to kill Imtiyaz. Farooq sought help of his friends Rabbani and Shakeel,” DCP, West Zone, A R Srinivas said.
After meeting police, Zainab and Imtiyaz along with his family got into a car and left for Sangareddy. As per the plan, Farooq Ali along with Rabbani, Shakeel and Ahmed Ali followed the car. While, Mohammed Ali along with his wife Zeba Fathima and his in-laws — Mohsin Ali and Zakera — followed the car in an auto. Farooq intercepted the car near Ameerpet Metro station and took away the key. Farooq, Rabbani, Shakeel, Ahmed, Mohsin and Mohammed attacked Imtiyaz with knives, while Zakera and Zeba roughed up Imtiyaz’s mother and Zainab, the DCP added.
Some passers-by recorded the video of the
attack and it went viral on social media. Luckily, Imtiyaz survived the attack and was recuperating at hospital. After the attack, the accused fled from the scene and took shelter at a relative’s place. By tracking their movements, police arrested the accused from their hideout in Shaheen Nagar in Mylardevpally and seized two autos and five knives from their possession.
