CHENNAI: An 18-year-old boy fell off a flyover after he was thrown away from a moving bike in Poonamallee on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Sai Santhosh, has been admitted with severe head injuries at a private hospital in Porur. His father, Chandrasekar, who rode the bike, also sustained injuries in the accident and has been admitted in the same hospital.
The accident took place around 2.30pm on Chenneri kuppam bridge near Savitha Dental College at Poonamallee, when they were on their way to attend a relative's wedding near Poonamallee.
"As a lorry, travelling in the same direction, came close to his bike, he moved further to the roadside and hit the railing. Sai was thrown off and he fell on the service road below the flyover," police said.

Police said that since no vehicle was crossing the service lane at the time on the accident, Sai Santhosh escaped.
The accident brought traffic on the stretch to a halt for about an hour on the Chennai -Bengaluru highway. The Poonamallee traffic police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
