Police dog bitten by mongrel

A mongrel inflicted bleeding injuries on a police dog on duty at Municipal Colony on Sunday morning.

The dog, Rajarajan, had been brought to the crime scene, where a house break-in had happened, when it came under attack of the mongrel. Dog squad personnel rescued the injured animal and took it to a veterinary hospital in a police vehicle.

The squad had been summoned to the residence of a retired employee of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Kannan, 59.

Intruders had broken open the rear door while the family members were sleeping in an air-conditioned room, according to a complaint lodged by Mr. Kannan with the Medical College Hospital police.

The intruders had decamped with 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery and silver articles weighing around 1.50 kilograms from an almirah, the complaint said. The Medical College Hospital police have registered a case and are investigating.
