Pune: Due to unavailability of sufficient water in the dams and changes leading to delay of monsoon, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has rescheduled water supply timetable of Katraj, Sinhagad and Kondhwa areas of the city.

From June 10, all these areas will have to face a one-day water cut in rotation. Civic body’s Water Supply Department claimed that due to this change, 30 million litre per day (MLD) water will be saved and it will be able to supply water to the tail end of the city.

PMC Water Supply Department has published a new time table for the south part of the city which consists of Katraj and Sinhagad Road. The civic body has admitted that there is a shortage of water while the demand is increasing. They have taken a decision to implement water closer once a week in rotation in Katraj, Kondhwa and Sinhagad Road areas.

Wadgaon water pumping and treatment plant has a capacity of 250 MLD which supplies water to Katraj, Sinhagad Road and Kondhwa areas. The civic body has divided areas in seven different parts and declared a day for no water supply.

Head of PMC Water Supply Department Pravin Gedam said, “This rescheduling is not for the entire city. It is only restricted to areas where Wadgaon pumping station is supplying water. Due to the new timetable, we will save 30 MLD of water and it will help to provide tail part of the city such as Kondhwa, Yewalewadi, NIBM etc. The tail area of is not getting sufficient water.”
