Rajasthan: Morning temperature dips but days still simmer

It has been a fortnight since various places in the state have been witnessing heatwave conditions
JAIPUR: As south west monsoon entered Kerala on Saturday, a minor dip in mercury was reported in some parts in the state. However, Churu remained hottest in the state where a maximum temperature of 47.4 degree Celsius was recorded.

The respite was seen only in the early morning temperatures, as days continued to simmer at 43.0 degree Celsius and above, at many places in the state.
In Jaipur, a maximum temperature of 44.6 degree Celsius and a rise in the minimum temperature, was also witnessed as minimum temperature of 31.6 degree Celsius was recorded. Roads remained empty during noon and afternoon hours when people remain in their respective offices and homes. In this season so far, Jaipur has witnessed its maximum temperature up to 46.0 degree Celsius. The met office said that there would be further rise in the maximum temperature of Jaipur.
Apart from the scorching heat, Jaipur met office said that in next one fortnight, the pre-monsoon activity will start, which will increase the humidity levels. “When humidity goes beyond 60 per cent, even 40.0 degree Celsius gives a tough time,” said an officer with the Jaipur Met office.
It has been a fortnight since various places in the state have been witnessing heatwave conditions. Except a dip of one or two degree Celsius by and large, the maximum temperatures in the state came under heatwave category. “When the maximum temperatures are on and above 44.0 degree Celsius, we can put it in the category of heatwave,” said an officer with the Jaipur met office.

As monsoon hit Kerala, the farmers in the state started making their calculations on the onset of south west monsoon in Rajasthan. Usually, south west monsoon enters Rajasthan during the last week of June and it comes to the state after reaching Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
This time, it is already delayed by eight days. Thus, the state can’t expect its arrival before the first week of July. In its forecast, Jaipur met office said that mercury will continue to take an upward swing for the next couple of days, in eastern and western Rajasthan.
