The Coimbatore Rural Police on Friday remanded four persons, including ‘Bar’ Nagaraj, on various charges including damage to public property.

According to the police, a group of eight persons, including Nagaraj (28), got into a brawl with another group of six persons regarding “money transaction” issues.

Sabaris (23), who is close to Nagaraj, allegedly took away a dog that belonged to Jibin Joseph (21), a member of the rival group. During a clash that took place in Jothi Nagar ‘D’ Colony in Pollachi, members of Nagaraj's group allegedly hit Santhosh Vikram (21), an associate of Joseph, with a beer bottle and damaged their vehicles, the police said.

Joseph filed a complaint at Coimbatore East station against Nagaraj and seven members of his group. Sabaris filed a counter-complaint against Joseph’s group. The police detained all 14 of them on Friday.

Four out of the 14, who are above the age of 21, were remanded in judicial custody and lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison. One member from Nagaraj’s group was a 17-year-old and he was sent to a juvenile home in Coimbatore. The remaining nine members, who were from both groups and between the ages of 18 and 21, were remanded in a borstal in Pollachi on Friday, police said.

Nagaraj complained of chest pain while being detained and it was proved false during a health check-up at the Government Hospital in Pollachi, the police said.
