Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Vs. Lamborghini Aventador S: Can The Super Sedan Beat The Supercar?

Until recentλy, it would’ve been unthinkable for a stock sedan or SUV to beat a blue-blooded supercar at the drag strip without having previously paid a visit to a tuner.

Nonetheless, a lot of things have changed in the last few years, to the point where we have models such as the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S that could pose a trouble to something like the Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster.

The German super sedan may have room for the entire family and space in the boot for their luggage, plus a comfortable ride, but it’s also a force to be reckoned with. Its 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 produces a whopping 630 horsepower (639 PS / 470 kW) and 664 pound-feet (900 Nm) of torque, rocketing it to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.2 seconds and up to a 190 mph (305 km/h) max speed.

In the opposite corner, the Aventador S is powered by an old school 6.5-liter, naturally aspirated V12 with 730 hp (740 PS / 544 kW) and 507 lb-ft (690 Nm) of torque. Under full throttle, the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) is dispatched in 3.0 seconds and top speed sits at 217 mph (350 km/h). The weight balance also tilts in favor of the Italian supercar, which is more than 400 kg (882 lbs) lighter.

Now, it has been proven many times that official numbers don’t always translate in the real world, where the driver and a number of other factors come into play. But is it possible for a saloon, even one as potent as the Merc, beat Lambo’s range-topper in a head-to-head drag race? What do you think?
