SOMERSET — A woman was taken to Rhode Island Hospital after the Harley-Davidson motorcycle she was driving collided with a car in Somerset on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Brayton Point Road and Read Street.

Somerset Police Sgt. Todd Costa at the scene said the woman suffered a head injury and a compound fracture. Costa did not have any other information regarding the motorcycle driver, but said she will likely survive her injuries.

The severely damaged motorcycle was towed a short time after an ambulance left the scene.

The woman driving the Subaru sedan that the motorcyclist reportedly hit declined medical treatment at the scene. After talking with police officers, the woman left with family members.

The driver of the car was apparently making a left-hand turn onto Brayton Point Road from Read Street when the motorcyclist traveling eastbound on Read Street smashed into the Subaru’s passenger side.

Both airbags deployed on the passenger side of the vehicle, which also sustained significant damage to the windshield, bumper and side panel of the car.
