PATNA: State agriculture minister
Prem Kumar said on Friday that the target for paddy production has been set at 108 lakh metric tonne pertaining to the current kharif season involving cultivation in 33 lakh hectares of land. ‘Kisan chaupal’ would be held in every panchayat between June 10 and June 30 to motivate the farmers concerned for that purpose, he said.
The minister said ‘kisan chaupals’ would be held in each of the 534 blocks and 8,405 panchayats identified to apprise the farmers of various government schemes, including with regard to subsidy, which they could avail.
Agriculture department principal secretary Sudhir Kumar, who accompanied the minister, said such chaupals were also held last year. Every chaupal would involve participation of at least 250 farmers, the panchayat level kisan salahkars, kisan coordinators, as well as officials of the agriculture and animal husbandry resources department, he added.
The minister said file movement has been started to solicit the consent for the participation of CM
Nitish Kumar and deputy CM
Sushil Kumar Modi in the state level ‘kisan chaupal’ to be held at Patna.
He said last year, 280 of the total 534 blocks had been hit by drought-like conditions due to less than normal rain. At present, the farmers were being encouraged to go for the production of seedlings of paddy for transplantation, he said, adding they would be paid diesel subsidy.
