Fire breaks out at chemical godown near Kolkata's Howrah bridge

KOLKATA: A massive fire engulfed a godown near Howrah's Jagannath Ghat in the wee hours of Saturday. At least 20 fire tenders have reached the spot, trying to douse the flames.
The fire broke out around 2am. No reports of injuries or casualties have emerged so far. Fire-fighting operations are currently underway.
West Bengal fire and emergency services minister Sujit Bose and Director General of fire services are present at the spot.
The fire broke out at a warehouse that stocks chemicals. The fire was controlled at 8.30am but it might take several more hours to bring it under control.

Strand Bank road traffic has been diverted.
The police said they are investigating the cause of fire. It might have originated externally, fears police.
