BBMP aims to better Swachh ranking

more-in

Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun held a meeting on Friday with the BBMP councillors, officials, NGOs, and general public to plan projects and programmes to improve the city’s Swachh Bharat ranking.

The BBMP councillors said in spite of the BBMP having 164 dry waste collection centres with eight waste processing units across the city, it was ranked below many cities whose waste processing system was not as good.

A BBMP official said it was decided in the meeting to tackle the problems of waste segregation at source, which was not happening. He said a 32-point checklist will be prepared and action will be taken to make the process more efficient.

Guidebook

The official also said that the Bengaluru Eco team had prepared a guidebook on waste management. It was decided in the meeting that the book would be used to create awareness and educate schoolchildren about waste management.
