CHENNAI: A 28-year-old
transsexual attempted suicide after consuming
sleeping pills at
Jafferkhanpet on Friday. The person was rescued and sent to Government Royapettah Hospital for further treatment.
Police said Apsara had left her family and was living with her roommate Ajitha for the past two years. She underwent a sex reassignment surgery for which she borrowed 30,000 from Ajitha. She was paying the money back in installments.
On Thursday, a fight broke out during which Ajitha's acquaintances hurled abuses at Apsara. Police said the exchange upset Apsara and she decided to end her life. But her neighbours found her lying unconscious and took her to the hospital where her condition is said to be critical.
Police have registered a case and are questioning Ajitha.
"We are trying to find out what led Apsara to attempt suicide. She is yet to narrate the whole incident," an investigating officer said.
