Ghaziabad: A
professor working with a private university in Noida was attacked by a group of residents of his housing society in Raj Nagar Extension around 10.30pm on Thursday. The attack allegedly took place over an argument related to
RWA election in the society.
The victim was identified as Gagnesh Sharma, who is head of the chemical engineering department in Galgotias University. He is also the media in-charge of the Federation of Raj Nagar Extension Apartment Owners’ Association. Sharma is now undergoing treatment at Yashoda hospital.
In his police complaint, Sharma has alleged that while he was returning from a friend’s house inside the society, he met Mohit Tomar and three-four of his friends who were reportedly consuming liquor. A debate over the RWA
elections soon snowballed into a clash. Gagnesh was allegedly beaten with iron
rods and suffered injuries to the head.
An FIR was registered under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) against Mohit and three-four of his associates.
Umesh Bahadur Singh, the SHO of Sihani Gate police station, said CCTV footage of the attack was being examined and a probe had been initiated.
