Surat: A local court released on bail two constables of Khatodara police station arrested for torturing a dealer of second hand cars in custody here on Friday. Four policemen were booked on Wednesday for custodial torture of Sonu Yadav at Khatodara police station, this incident happening just a few days after a theft suspect had died here in custody. Constable Kuldeep Solanki was arrested on Wednesday and constable Rajesh Mahadik on Thursday. Cops produced both of them in the court on Friday as Solanki’s one day remand had ended and Mahadik had just been nabbed, but it granted them bail.
Constable Kanaksinh Jethusinh and constable Paresh Nathabhai, accused in the custodial torture case, have also been charged with murder of the theft suspect along with six other policemen, including a police inspector and a sub-inspector, all of whom are on the run. Sonu Yadav was picked up by police and beaten up on May 30 and allegedly asked to pay Rs1 lakh. He was threatened by cops that if he didn’t pay them Rs1 lakh, he will be booked in a serious offence. The victim made a written complaint to police commissioner’s office subsequent to which Khatodara police were asked to register the case.
Meanwhile, police said a search is on to nab the eight cops charged with murder of a theft suspect in custody.
