City gets slight rain, but little respite

As Ludhiana witnessed 1.4mm rainfall since Wednesday night, there was a 3-degree fall in maximum temperature on Thursday. But the temperature hovered above 40°C, giving little respite to city residents.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 41.2°C, which was two degrees above normal, and the minimum was 29.3°C, five degrees above normal.
On Friday too, the weather would remain partly cloudy sky.
Dr K K Gill from PAU meteorological department said, “The weather is expected to remain dry with possibility of clouds in city and its adjoining areas during the next 24 hours. The overcast condition is due to western disturbances.”
“However, there is no chance of early arrival of monsoon in the city. The monsoon will arrive in the first week of July. Last year, the city had seen pre-monsoon showers on June 20 and the monsoon had arrived on June 26,” she added.
In Punjab, holy city Amritsar experienced a hot day at 42.1°C. Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a high of 41.2 and 40.5°C, respectively.

Meanwhile, residents hoped for rain and pleasant weather in the coming days.
Oswald Masunga, an international student at PCTE, said, “I have been staying in the city for the past four years, but it seems this is the hottest summer. Though I felt happy to see some rain on Thursday, but it made little difference to the temperature. Nowadays, I am drinking a plenty of fluids to cope with the heatwave.”
