TRICHY: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Friday carried out an eviction drive at Vaiyampatti to eliminate blackspots on the Trichy-Dindigul
National Highway (NH -83).
The NH has a flyover at Vaiyampatti. The 500-metre
service roads on either side of the flyover had been encroached upon by makeshift shops.
Locals had set up around 100 makeshift shops exploiting the service road space. The shops attracted lots of customers who parked their vehicles on the service roads. This hindered vehicular movement on service roads.
“We evicted the temporary
encroachments, mostly the makeshift shops of hawkers, to render good visibility for the road users approaching the NH from Vaiyampatti and vice versa,” an NHAI official said.
The NHAI
Trichy Project Implementation Unit (PIU) said that permanent encroachments on the roads would be removed after completing legal formalities.
