MOHALI: A private typist was held red handed
accepting bribe, by the state vigilance bureau sleuths on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Sarabjit Singh resident of Akali Daftar Gurudwara Road, Ward No.6, Kharar, Mohali. The accused claimed that he was accepting the money on the orders of ASI Kewal Singh who has been absconding after the
arrest of Singh, said the officials of the vigilance sleuths. A case has been registered against two persons, including a police official, for
demanding the money.
The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint of Naresh Kumar, resident of village Padiala, Mohali against ASI Kewal Singh, incharge police post Sunny enclave, Kharar for demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000. When the deal was struck, it was decided that Rs 5,000 was to be e paid as the first instalment. The demand came against a case filed by complainant Shimla Devi under section 420 and 120-B of the IPC against four accused including Naresh. ASI Kewal Singh demanding bribe to produce a challan report in Mohali court that would favour Naresh.
Vigilance sleuths said during the raid, complainant Naresh Kumar called ASI Kewal Singh on telephone, who said that he is out of the office, and asked him to meet Sarbjit Singh, who is a private typist posted in police chowki, and also asked the complainant to handover the money to Sarbjit Singh.
A team of vigilance bureau led by Inspector Tejpal Singh caught the accused Sarabjit Singh on the spot while accepting the bribe. Meanwhile raids are being held to arrest ASI Kewal Singh .
