With technology and pop culture progressing at a faster rate than ever before, many are finding it difficult to keep up.
But now Australian research from McCrindle has revealed the difference between each generation to make it easier for people to understand and distinguish between different generations.
The research group shared details about Generation Alpha, Generation Z, Generation Y, Generation X and the Baby Boomers and highlighted the most iconic moments, toys and music from each one.
They also looked at the most memorable cars and the slang terms most commonly used for each while they were growing up.

Generation Alpha (2010 - 2024)
This generation, also known as the 'children of millennials', is the first generation born entirely within the 21st century.
They are children born from 2010 to 2024 - currently all under the age of 10 - and to date they're considered to be the most technological-infused demographic.
Slang
The slang terms that are most often featured in their vocabulary are words such as 'yeet', 'lit', 'hundo', 'oof', 'rn' and 'idrc'.

Social markers
Their biggest social markers to date have been the election of Donald Trump as the American President in 2016 and the beginnings of Brexit in the same year.
Iconic car
The iconic car for this generation is expected to be autonomous vehicles, also known as a robotic car or driverless car.
It is capable of sensing its environment and moving with little or no human input and is expected to appear in the 2020s.

The fidget spinner is so far the most iconic toy for this generation which first became popular in 2017.
Another defining game is Fortnite.

This generation are most likely to use a smart speaker, which is a type of wireless speaker and voice command device with an integrated virtual assistant.

Generation are typically thought to be between the years 1995 and 2009 and are currently aged 10 to 24.
Slang
Their most used slang is the fire emoji, 'fam', 'goat', 'slay' and 'yass queen'.

The social marker for this generation is the financial crisis from 2007 to 2008, which is also known as the global financial crisis.
This event is considered by many experts to be the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression.

The 'iconic car' is the electric Tesla Model S which was released in 2012.
It was designed to be the safest and most 'exhilarating' sedan on the road and is famed for its ability to accelerate from 1 to 100kph in just 2.6 seconds.

Generation Z are defined as being born between 1995 and 2009 and are currently aged 10 to 24

Generation Y (1980 - 1994)
Generation Y is also known as Millennials and the internet generation.
Researchers and popular media typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and 1994 as the ending birth year.

This group's most used slang growing up was 'funky', 'bling', 'doh', 'foshizz', and 'whassup?'.

The social marker for this generation is September 11, which were four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States.
