MOTIHARI: One Deepanshu Kumar (15), son of a foodgrain dealer Chandrashekhar Prasad, was
stabbed to death by a group of armed miscreants at his Paharpur Bazaar residence under Paharpur police station in
East Champaran district late on Wednesday night.
The incident took place around midnight when the victim was fast asleep in his house. The criminals also made an abortive attempt to eliminate his two brothers, Pranjal Kumar (12) and Nawnit (10), who were also stabbed. They have been admitted to a primary health centre for treatment.
As the news about the incident spread, a number of local residents and businessmen assembled in the village and consoled the family. The shopkeepers of Paharpur Bazaar downed their shutters as a mark of protest. They were peeved at the police failure to rein in criminals, who are committing crimes at frequent intervals.
Areraj sub-divisional police officer Jyoti Prakash said that prima facie some old enmity is stated to be the reason behind the incident. One of the injured, Pranjal Kumar, has lodged a complaint with the Paharpur police station against four persons, including a medical practitioner of the locality.
Paharpur police station SHO Anuj Kumar Singh said the role of a medical practitioner in the killing is being ascertained. The SHO did not rule out the involvement of contract killers in the incident, which led to tension in the locality. The family members told the police that the criminals first tried to kidnap Deepanshu but attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon when he resisted, leading to his death. Police have failed to nab any of the named accused in the case.
