Allahabad: Seeking to live up to the expectations of tourists especially after the grandeur of Kumbh Mela,
police department would set up five temporary police outposts near religious attractions like Beni Madhav temple, Akshayvat and Bade Hanuman temple to ensure safety of visitors.
The temporary outposts will be set up in Alopibagh, Beni Madhav temple, Dashashwamedh ghat, Akshayvat and Parade Ground.
The department has deployed eight policemen at each of these outposts and they would report to Daraganj police.
The move comes after inspector of Daraganj police station Vineet Singh mooted the idea as a way to deal with visitors more efficiently at religious attractions.
The move would speed up police action whenever they are approached by tourists with grievances.
Singh said the department has earlier decided to set up three police outposts, but the number was later increased to five. “Ever since Akshayvat was opened to public, the number of devotees coming to Sangam has increased. A new police outpost at Akshayvat would help in regulating the rush of devotees,” he added. The extra security would also rein pick pocketers and petty criminals lurking around tourists spots waiting to fleece or con visitors.
A temporary outpost at Alopibagh would help police man the crowd of devotees which throngs the famous Maa Alopidevi temple throughout the year.
